A Masterpiece on your Mantelpiece: Images on Christmas Cards

Event Date: 4th December 2024

After a delicious 2-course lunch, we’ll be joined by art historian Richard Kay for a lecture about the often overlooked artwork that appears in many of our houses around this time of year – that of the humble Christmas card.
As Christmas approaches, this talk – illustrated throughout with images used on Christmas cards – will help you to understand a little better why certain subjects are better suited than others to Christmas cards. It gives a glimpse into just how much thought goes into deciding which pictures ‘work’ on Christmas cards – and which ones do not. Over 500 years of art in just one seasonal hour!
